Beautiful Rangoli design

Art Made From Light

Rangoli is one of India's most beloved folk art traditions β€” intricate geometric or floral patterns created on the ground using colored sand, flower petals, rice powder, or chalk. During Diwali, Rangoli is made at entrances to welcome Lakshmi, the goddess of prosperity, and to celebrate the triumph of light over darkness.

Kolam is the South Indian equivalent β€” white rice flour patterns, often symmetrical and deeply meditative to create. Both traditions are welcome in this competition.

Whether you are a seasoned artist or trying Rangoli for the first time, we welcome you. The joy is in the making.
